Research fields

My long-standing scientific interest has been the basic research in the field of cell biology that applies new approaches and advanced light microscopy technologies to progress our understanding on regulation of neuronal circuit assembly and functions. In particular: the physiological process of neurogenesis in the adult mouse brain and the impact of BDNF on proliferation, cell specification, survival, axonal/dendritic plasticity and functional alterations in ion channel and synaptic properties of newborn neurons. The other focus concerns vesicular trafficking of neurotrophins  and on molecular mechanism of neurodegeneration.

Particular focus has been posed along the years to live imaging (time-lapse fluorescence and fast confocal microscopy) and super-resolution technology (STED, SIM, STORM).
